Obtaining a Driver’s License through CEYLON DRIVING SCHOOL under the Standard Japanese Procedure

All exams and practical tests will be conducted through the driver’s license center corresponding to the prefecture where
you reside. For all exams and practical tests, we will refer you to the appropriate driver’s license center.
The procedure will proceed as follows:

  1. Temporary license exam (consisting of 50 questions)
  2. Practical driving test (on the driving course at the driver’s license center)
  3. Obtaining the temporary license
  4. Written exam with 95 questions
  5. Road driving test
  6. Attending a short training session at the driving school to receive first aid instruction and learn about the
procedures to follow in case of an accident
  7. Obtaining the driver’s license
  8. Before obtaining your driver’s license, you must first obtain a temporary license (KARIMENKYO). For this,
you need to pass a written exam consisting of 50 questions based on traffic laws and road signs.
  9. After successfully passing the above-mentioned written exam of 50 questions, you will need to face a practical driving
test. During this test, you must practically drive a vehicle on the test course at the Driver’s License Center,
demonstrating your ability to follow Japanese traffic laws.
Once you pass the 50-question written test, you must pass the practical driving test within six months. If you fail to pass
the test within six months, you will have to retake the 50-question written exam again.
Training for the driving test is provided by our institution, where you will receive practical driving training for a period of 12
    hours.
If, within these 12 hours, you do not acquire the necessary driving skills for the test, our institution will provide you with an
additional 2 hours of training free of charge.
If this additional time exceeds, there will be an extra charge of 2000 Japanese Yen per hour.
  10. After passing the driving skills test, you will be issued a provisional (temporary) license. Then, our institution will provide
you with practical on-road training for a period of five days, training you for two hours each day, totaling ten hours of
    instruction.
  11. After that, you will need to take a written examination consisting of 95 questions. If you answer the questions correctly
according to the criteria, you will pass the exam. For this purpose, our institution provides you with sample question
papers and conducts classes via Zoom technology.
  12. After successfully passing the written examination mentioned above, you will have to take a practical driving test on
public roads to assess your driving skills. This test will be conducted at the relevant driver’s license center.
It is especially important to note that after obtaining the provisional license, you must pass this practical driving test within
six months. If you fail to pass within six months, you will have to start the entire process from the beginning again.
  13. At the conclusion of all the above examinations, you will be referred to a driving school approved by the Japanese
authorities. You will be required to attend a short training session to receive first aid instruction and to learn about the
procedures to follow in case of an accident. After completing this training, you will be given a certificate from the driving
    school.
You must bring this certificate to the driver’s license center in order to obtain your driver’s license.
